Job Ideas and Information
Can't decide what to do?
It can be a bit unsettling when you're not sure what you want to do in the future especially when others may seem to be clued up on their plans. Don't worry, you definitely won't be the only feeling like this.
You could try Kudos online. Even if you have done this before, you may still find it useful to do it again, so give it a go.
You answer questions about the kind of things you might like to do in a job and you'll get a list of job ideas for you to explore further as well as information about a whole range of jobs - how you get into them, how much they pay, what kind of things you need to be good at.
If you already know the type of work you'd like to do or have a strong liking for particular subjects at school but don't know what kind of jobs there might be, you could try Careerscape. You don't need to answer any questions and you can get a list of jobs and information about them that would suit your interests.
If you've got a job in mind, Kudos is a good way of checking out how realistic your idea might be.
Or you could try a quick job ideas search - it's less sophisticated - but it might give you a start.click here for the Connexions Direct job ideas page.
Just need information?
Careerscape is an information database of over 800 titles covering general stuff on health, education, making choices as well as practically every job you can think of.
You can also try the Connexions Direct website for job information.
How do you get to use these programmes?
You can use these programmes in most schools in the Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole area and at our Connexions Centres. You can use the online version at home if you want to.
You will need to get a username and password from your tutor, school careers co-ordinator or Connexions. You can contact us through the website to get this.
You can also use the jobs4u database on the Connexions Direct website.
Are there any other programmes available?
Yes, your school or college may have different programmes. For example schools for young people who are disabled or have learning difficulties may have Job Exporer Database.
At our Connexions Centres we also have the following:
Higher Ideas
Not sure what course to do? This programme can help with ideas linking to the subjects you study at advanced level, the type of job that interests you as well as any specific job ideas you may have.
Exodus
Thinking of working, studying or taking a gap year abroad? This is for you. Full of information about documents you need, getting about for a wide range of countries in Europe and further afield.
Funderfinder
Need more money? If you are in need, you can use this database to find organisations that may have money to give to young people in particular circumstances. You would then need to apply. There is no guarantee that you would get the money and you might have to apply to a few places to get anything.
