What information is available for parents?
There are two national Connexions publications for young people and they each have a section in them for Parents and Carers. Which Way Now is aimed at year 9 students. It's Your Choice is for students in years 10 and 11. We order copies for all local authority schools to give out to their students in years 9 and 11. You can download a copy of the parent section here.
You can get your own copy of the young people's publications from:

Understanding Your Teenager
This guide for parents has lots of information and local as well as national contacts. It was planned and paid for by the three local authorities and Connexions. It was written a bout 3 years ago but a lot of the information is still relevant and it has local contacts too. Contact us for a copy or ring your local Connexions Centre.
Essential Guide for Parents and Carers of young people who have a learning difficulty or disability
An updated version of this is available now. This is for parents of young people who have a statement of special educational needs and those who are on School Action or School Action Plus registers. Personal Advisers give copies to young people to pass on to their parents. You can download a copy opposite.
See also the section on Learning Difficulties and Disabilities aimed mainly at those working with young people. It has more information about supporting young people who are disabled and/or have a learning difficulty, including useful contacts and transition.
Parentline Plus
This organisation has information just for parents on things like bullying, exam pressure and parenting teenagers. It also has a helpline.

General
Many organisations that provide information on particular issues will have leaflets aimed specifically at parents. For example, The Royal College of Psychiatrists website has a range of informative factsheets available to download.
What resources do Connexions provide for young people?
Our Connexions Centres have a small selection of key reference books, internet access and a supply of leaflets on a range of subjects for young people to take away. We also have a number of software programmes to help with job ideas, higher education course suggestions and information on occupations, working abroad, getting funding, etc.
Connexions/Careers software
We provide most schools and colleges in this area with Kudos and Careerscape. These can help with job ideas and have information about occupations, education, making choices etc. Your son or daughter can use these at home via the Internet. They need to get a password from school.
They can use the Contact Us page to request password details. We will need to check that they are on our database before we can give out the password. We have to do this because of the licence agreement with the company that makes these programmes.
