Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing

Is it just me?

About 10% of young people suffer from a serious mental health issue. These young people will need specialist help. There will be a lot of other young people who will go through difficult times but will be ok if they have people that they can talk to.

So whether you’re feeling depressed, stressed, angry, lacking in confidence or self-esteem (how you feel about yourself), are self-harming or not eating properly, you are not the only one.

Who can help?

Your doctor, the school nurse or Connexions Adviser will take you seriously and talk with you in confidence about how you are feeling.

(There are some occasions when these people may not be able to keep what you tell them confidential. For example, if they think you or others are in danger. They will explain this to you when they see you)

Young Minds is an organisation especially for children and young people who have mental health issues. They do a great set of leaflets, covering things like self harm, self-esteem, staying cool when you're feeling angry.  You can download them from the Young Minds web site.
