Gap Year
Feel lik you need time out from studying and get some experience of life and learn more about yourself?
A gap year after school or college is a great opportunity to do this. For many, a gap year comes before university, but it's also an option after you've finished your degree course before starting work.
There are loads of options available to you as a gap year, including paid and voluntary work:
- Stay in the UK: gain valuable work experience and maybe save some cash for university.
- Paid or voluntary projects overseas: from helping disadvantaged communities in developing countries to working as a camp counsellor on a summer camp in the USA, there are opportunities galore to help you combine work with travel. Projects range from 4 weeks to a full year.
A successful gap year can look great on your CV or any application you make, showing your ability to meet challenges and use your initiative. Remember that universities and future employers will be looking to see that you used the time well.
Some university departments are not so keen on people taking a gap year, so check out with prospective universities beforehand.
